Scholarship Message from Dollars for Scholars

Q. My son/daughter just applied for a scholarship from Dollars from Scholars. What happens now?

All scholarship applications are being reviewed and scored anonymously based upon six factors: GPA, SAT scores, employment, activities, goals and aspirations, and special circumstances.

Q. When will we find out if he/she has been selected for a scholarship?

One week prior to Awards Night, phone calls will be made to scholarship recipients’ homes asking them to attend Awards Night. Awards Night is Wednesday, May 29, at 7PM in the Performing Arts Center at Whitman-Hanson Regional High School.

Q. I understand that by volunteering for Dollars for Scholars activities, my son/daughter can receive extra points towards their scholarship score. Is it too late to assist?

No. There are still four activities remaining in the fundraising calendar for DFS. They are:

Saturday, April 27, 9-5PM, “Drive 4 UR School” @ WHRHS

Tuesday, April 30, 2-8PM, US Senatorial Special Election @Whitman T Hall, Maquan Elementary School

Saturday, May 4, 9-1PM, Electronic Recycling Day @ Maquan Elementary School

Saturday, May 18, 9-5PM (Wh) & 10-5PM (Han), Local Elections @ Whitman Town Hall & Maquan Elementary School

Q. Does volunteering really help his/her score?

Yes. Although DFS volunteer points don’t guarantee a scholarship, many times it can mean the difference between a smaller or larger award. For every hour volunteered, an extra point is earned.

Q. How does my son/daughter sign up to volunteer?

Volunteers may sign up with Mrs. Boyce in the WHRHS or through Michael Ganshirt @ michaelgans@yahoo.com or 781-252-9683.
